STAKE HANDOUTS

TEMPLE PREPARATION IN THE HOME

Proper temple preparation can build faith in the Plan of Salvation and the role of temple ordinances and related covenants in that Plan. It will also improve a member’s first-time experience and the quality of their subsequent temple worship and temple service. In the Sandy Utah Crescent Stake we encourage every individual and family to prepare to experience the full blessings of the temple.

Parents and leaders are encouraged to review all of the information and select, as guided by the Spirit, that which would be of greatest impact and value to their family or others being prepared to attend and worship in the temple. We similarly encourage inspired use of this information by ministering brothers and ministering sisters as they fulfill their responsibility to "help individuals and families prepare for their next ordinance (and) keep the covenants they have made."

It is also intended that familiarity with this information will assist in our responsibility to share the gospel. The eternal nature of the family is a compelling doctrine the Lord is using to draw His children on both sides of the veil into His church and kingdom.

LIFE AND MISSIONARY PREPARATION IN THE HOME

During recent years, the Lord has invited us to think and behave differently under the direction of His living prophets. We embrace these revelatory changes, and invite everyone to purposefully plan and implement more gospel-oriented actions in our homes and individual lives.

Blessings will flow as we follow inspired counsel. The home is the best place to learn Christ-like characteristics and take greater personal and family responsibility for individual conversion and spiritual growth. It should be the foundation for a lifelong process of conversion. As a stake presidency, we feel strongly that this invitation from the Lord also includes taking greater personal and family responsibility for mission and life preparation. It is with great love that we invite each member of our stake--as parents, couples, families, friends and individuals--to seek greater revelation to understand and best implement missionary and life preparation.

THE GATHERING OF ISRAEL

In March, 1842, Joseph Smith wrote the inspired thirteen Articles of Faith of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in which the tenth Article proclaims, “We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.” To add current context President Nelson has stated that this gathering on both sides of the veil is “the greatest challenge, the greatest cause, and the greatest work on earth today.” This document describes how the Gathering of Israel is unfolding across the world and we encourage members of our stake to play an integral role in this work.

PRESIDENT BALLARD LETTER

President M. Russell Ballard recently provided instruction to strengthen the work of gathering Israel on both sides of the veil and to allow the bishopric to remain focused on youth. The instruction is found in the attached May 26, 2020 Quorum of the Twelve letter "Strengthening Missionary and Temple and Family History Work in Stakes and Wards" and document. Please read, study and contemplate what you can do to help implement this teaching. Additional training will be provided in the near future.

MY PLAN UPDATES

The My Plan online course helps missionaries plan for and successfully return home. The course also prepares them for a post-mission group experience during which they will meet with other recently returned missionaries and discuss the contents of My Plan for Returned Missionaries. This is a letter explaining updates to the My Plan effort.
